I’ve been daydreaming about the canoeing holiday in Sweden. I’m planning for next year a lot lately. And like with most outdoorsy daydreams, it came with some serious gear obsession… The best way to get over it is to share it with you, right?
So here’s my dream wild camping equipment for a long holiday in the wilderness.
1) Dutch oven
Being able to cook in a pot when wild camping for a long time makes you feel a little more at home. If you get yourself a Dutch oven, you can make fresh bread or soup on the fire, making for an earthy nutritious dinner.
To feel even more in touch with the environment, try sleeping outside – you’ll hear the sounds of nature. Hammocks are a lovely comfy outdoor bed. Coupled with a warm sleeping bag, you’ll sleep soundly, breathing fresh air.
If the weather isn’t the best, you will want to take a tarp with you to use as a shelter while sleeping and hanging out at your wild camping spot in the evening while cooking and eating.
4) Storm kettle
If you plan to drink a lot of tea and hot chocolates, you’ll want to take a storm kettle with you. This fantastic pot allows you to boil water efficiently outdoors by using little twigs and branches.
As much as you love bushcraft, you won’t always have the time (or the patience!) to build a fire from scratch. A firesteel can be a blessing when you’ve been out in the woods or paddling down the river all day, and you are desperate for a brew.
6) Weather resistant camera
A waterproof camera is what you need to capture your time in the wild. You’ll be able to take as many shots as you like without worrying about breaking your precious piece of tech.
The tripod will become your best friend when you cook in pots outdoors. It’ll help keep the food at the right distance from the fire. You don’t want to burn your dinner when you have limited supplies!
If you have room in your backpack, an axe can turn out to be very useful. It’ll help you to efficiently cut dead wood for your fire.
9) Canadian canoe
What better means of transport could you use to go wild camping? Paddling along a lake or river to explore new shores and woods is magical. This stunning boat will also help you carry your heavy equipment and food.
