Time to compile my list of climbing gear favorites for Summer 2015. From rock shoes to softshells, these are my top picks to get you comfy with style at the crag.
1) Arc’Terix Alpha FL 30
This beautiful pack has caught my attention because of its colour but also its minimalist look. It is lightweight and designed for rock, ice, and alpine climbing. I love the RollTop and the fact that the whole sack is waterproof. At 610g, it’s incredibly light for a cragging pack, but it can be loaded with extra gear by using the external lash points. I’m also a big fan of the pocket on the top of the pack, which allows me to safely store valuables.
2) Mountain Equipment Gear Tee
I love this t-shirt’s pattern. It might be because I do like perving on gear at the shops every now and then. This is a soft tee perfect for a day of climbing.
3) Rab Sawtooth Softshell
You can never trust the weather in the UK, so you should always keep a softshell in your backpack. The Rab Sawtooth is ideal for a long day climbing that turns windy. I like that it has a hood in case you need to keep your ears out of the wind. The hood looks small enough to hide in the neck of your t-shirt if it bothers you while coiling up your rope.
4) Red Chilli Spirit Velcro Impact Zone Rock Shoe
How cool do these Red Chilli look? These shoes are designed to be fairly stiff and with a precise edge to tackle those smaller footholds with precision. The shock absorber feature is interesting too. The triple velcro straps help to wrap the shoe around your foot almost as comfortably as a laced shoe, without the hassle of tying your shoes each time you set off on a route.
5) Salomon Sense Pro Shorts
I’ve decided I’m going to try to climb in shorts. The weather is too hot this year to wear lycra. These Salomon Sense Pro allow plenty of movement and are rather baggy, so you can move on the rock in absolute comfort.
