Located in the outskirts of Fallowfield (Manchester), Sanskruti Restaurant is a vegetarian Indian restaurant that offers Punjabi, South Indian, and Gujarati specialities. It is definitely a hidden gem treasured by locals, as it was nearly full early on a Tuesday night when I paid them a visit with my boyfriend.
The menu is very diverse and provides vegan options as well as alcoholic drinks. The prices are certainly reasonable, with mains costing around £8.
The ambience is down-to-earth and colourful. The service is excellent; our food was served promptly, and the waiters were happy to recommend us a starter which complemented our main.
Our dining experience started with a selection of sauces and poppadoms to accompany our drinks. It was a light and pleasant way to have a nibble while we chose from the extensive menu.
What We Ate
To start, we had the Chaat platter for two. This included tasters of Bhel, Papdi chat, Sev puri, and Dahi puri. It was excellent; light, not too spicy but nicely spiced, and looked as good as it tasted.
As for mains, we indulged in Zafrani Paneer Korma with stuffed Paratha and Ringan Methi with Peshwari Naan. The Paneer was truly luscious; the cashew nut gravy was super creamy and coconutty. The Paratha was nice if a bit of heavy for my taste.
The Ringan Methi was very rich and delicately spiced. The aubergines and fenugreek leaves beautifully melted in our mouths.
The Naan was soft and fragrant and matched the Korma superbly.
Finally, we were offered access to a box full of tastiness and colour – a selection of traditional Indian mouth freshening sweets, which looked glorious.
We had a lovely dinner and truly enjoyed the delectable food.
Overall, I’d absolutely recommend Sanskruti to fellow Mancunians and tourists alike. It is the kind of place you nominate as your local Indian restaurant for a relaxing mid-week meal. There are so many dishes to choose from, you’ll never get bored and won’t be tempted to always order your go-to meal.
