Sugru makes “21st-century duct tape”, or play-dough that turns into rubber. You can use it for minor fixes around the house, DIY projects of any sort, or even patch up your old camping gear.
Price £6.99 for the three-pack and £12.99 for the 8 pack
“Out of the pack, Sugru feels like play-dough, and it’s that easy to use too. It bonds to almost any other material and cures just by exposing it to air. Its durable cured properties mean it’ll stay strong and securely bonded anywhere from the freezer to a steamy hot shower, from the home to the great outdoors.”
The product comes in small packs and different colors, which is ok as you don’t need much at a time unless you’re starting a new medium to a big DIY project. You can combine two sachets to create new colors, such as green, light blue, or orange. I found this very clever.
I used Sugru for various purposes – fixing a wobbly cabinet in the bathroom, repairing my old Apple cables, and creating extra space on my bedside table.
The product is easy to shape and reshape. You have a half an hour window before it starts turning into rubber, so that is plenty of time to create a shape you are satisfied with. You’ll need to clean your hands with a kitchen roll once you’re done because it’ll leave some color behind.
Sugru stuck firmly to all the surfaces I tested it on. I was surprised it just stuck to them and didn’t come off – once it dries, it’s pretty strong. What is also great is that you can remove Sugru in the future if you need to.
Don’t forget to wash your hands before use – any dirt left on them will transfer directly onto Sugru.
Sugru is very versatile and easy to use. You can have lots of fun with it or use it for simple little fixes. I just wish I had a garden to put it to use in lots of DIY outdoor decorating projects.
